This CD was created to bring greater awareness to
Autism Spectrum Disorder. Jon Fried and Deena Shoshkes (the husband & wife
behind The Cucumbers) teamed with their friend and neighbor, lyricist John
O’Neil, to turn his personal and first hand accounts of ASD into beautiful,
moving songs. They then recruited a wide array of musician friends such as
Jackson Browne & Valerie Carter, Marshall Crenshaw, Dar Williams, Dan Bern
& Mike Viola, Jonatha Brooke, Ollabelle and others to record these songs.
What ended up happening is; not only did these
artists record these songs, they made them their own. They breathe life into
them in such a way that each song removed from the context of the purpose of
the album, became a great song on its own. Each song isolated became a product
of the artist and could easily fit with the body of the artist work. The
passion and care that each individual artist gave to each song sets this album
apart in a way in which the message is not only delivered, but done so in a way
where the listener can accept and understand the underscoring of importance
delivered by the poignant lyrics of the subject matter at hand.
This is a wonderfully amazing album of musical
excellence that delivers a strong and powerful message. To overlook the value
of the music or the intent of the project would be to short change not only
your listening pleasure, but the ASD community as well.

SingSOS is a nonprofit group whose
mission is to use the power of music to raise awareness, funds and
spirits in the struggle against autism spectrum disorders.
They seek to raise awareness because the children and families hurt by
this baffling disease can only be helped if society at large
understands their needs and the life-altering power of early detection
and intensive treatment.
They seek to raise spirits because the parents involved face an isolating
and dispiriting fight. Building a sense of hope, community and more
widespread understanding is vital to sustaining and advancing their
efforts.
They seek to raise funds for the groups leading the charge against
autism, because their resources are not yet a match for the work to be
done. The funds they raise will benefit leading autism awareness groups
including Autism
Speaks.
They Sing SOS, Songs of the Spectrum, not only to sound the alarm about
autism's rapid spread, but to rally an effective national response.
